Living Altars

Sometimes we have moments that mark our lives in a permanent way. These moments can be good or bad. I have been thinking about these moments a lot lately and how with Jesus in your life even the bad turns out good. His nature is to redeem things it is who He is so it occurred to me that even hard times are really just opportunities for Jesus to move on our behalf. It is an opportunity for us to be living altar. In the Old Testament many times when God met with someone and moved mightily in their lives they would build an altar as a sign of what God did. Often times these altars became a testimony they would share with others, including the next generation when they would pass by. I think

A light in the storm

Recently I have had the pleasure of traveling along the shores of the Great Lakes. Living in Michigan I have always loved the big water. On one of my forays of the coast of Lake Michigan I spent quite a bit of time looking at the lighthouses that dot the state coastline. Michigan has approximately 127 functioning lighthouses. As I have traveled this past few weeks I have thought about the purpose of these lighthouses. Their primary purpose is to warn ships so they do not get too close to shore and run aground. They are also a place where the light keeper lives and monitors the waters for signs of trouble; often calling for or administering help. The thing that stood out to me most is that

Sadly so often we can become so self focused and self entitled that as a society we often dismiss the value of other people. This is completely opposite to what Jesus taught. He taught that we should be other focused and be willing to serve others. “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” ‭‭John‬ ‭15:12-13‬ ‭NKJ

Hidden Arrows

I am always so enthralled when I learn something new that is almost like a hidden arrow that points to God. Lou Giglio did several messages about scientific facts that were hidden arrows such as the fact that the cell that essentially functions as the glue that holds the human body together is shaped in the form of the cross. Growing up I was not a huge science fan but as an adult I am awed by such things. In my travels to Ireland I went to a place called the Giant’s Causeway where all the stone over several miles of limestone are shaped in an octagon. Another such thing that astonished me is that when a baby is in the womb they have no eye lids to begin with but rather at the appropriate
