Loving Well

So often we can get focused on doing rather than being. We are always looking for what we are supposed to do for God rather than being with Him. It’s almost as if we accept grace but also feel the need to earn His love. We often spend time trying to figure out our “calling” or we have a word spoken over ya about our “gift” and we spend all of our time trying to function in that gift. We need to shift away from the place of doing and into a place of being in love with Him. When we are so enraptured by who He is and we spend our time with that as our focus He is able to pour through us in ways we could never imagine. It is ironic that the very thing we are looking for by trying to earn our place in the kingdom is the very thing that naturally flows when we are aligned in our hearts with Him. We can spend so much time looking for our “calling” so we can “do what God designed us for” that we miss that it is never about attaining a place, position or title or even about approval and is always about relationship. “And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second like unto it is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments the whole law hangeth, and the prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40 I love this passage because I don’t have to wonder what God wants. He states it quite clearly. Love me. Love others that is the only thing I desire. Let us set aside any effort to do anything besides love. Any perspective that says we need to measure ourselves by any expectation. Let us simply endeavor to love Him well and then to love others. If this is our lifelong pursuit it will not only create a beautiful life for us but also draw people to Him.
