Suddenly

Have you ever become wearied waiting over a circumstance in your life that you are expecting to change. Perhaps a word that God gave you about something that is yet to come. Often times we can become very discouraged when we don’t see growth in those areas. It can seem as if nothing is happening. Our hearts become filled with doubt that God is going to move on our behalf because surely He would have done so by now. Sadly I find that I am a petulant person. I have had times where I get frustrated because a situation hasn’t gone the way I thought it would. It is either not happening fast enough or in the manner I assumed it would. Sometimes I even look at the lack of growth and consider that the word is dead. I conclude that either I misheard or God meant something different or worse I somehow messed it up and wasn’t good enough, doing the right things etc. Regardless of my reasoning I generally find myself feeling as though I have displeased God and that is the reason things haven’t moved forward. This is where I would be absolutely wrong. God’s words are not based on my worth, they are based on His. My job is to pray and continue to decree that which He has said whether I see signs of life or not. We have a large trumpet vine outside our backdoor that each summer seems to thrive and draw all kinds of birds and hummingbirds. It has been a source of much pleasure as we watch all the activities around it. Last year a large portion of it was ripped down in a storm and it was badly damaged. We did our best to pick up the damaged portion and wire it back into the rest of the vine. Things went from bad to worse, it seemed as if even the healthy portion was starting to wither. Coming into this summer we watched earnestly to see if there would be any growth. We saw none and the vine clung to the post limply and stayed brown and bare. Sadly we reasoned that it probably wasn’t going to come back from the damage it had sustained, the circumstances were just too much. Then an amazing thing happened a couple weeks ago. We got a couple weeks of blazing hot weather which brought lots of storms and rain. Before we even realized it life had spring forth from the trumpet vine! Leaves and branches grew out and blossoms began appearing! What we thought was dead was suddenly thriving with life! God spoke to me and said that which,to you, may appear dead and impossible is merely waiting for my timing. If you find yourself looking at a circumstance that appears to be withered and dead be encouraged that God is a God of suddenly and He can bring life to something that has been accounted as dead. Do not give up but stand on His character that He is who He says He is and He does what He says He will do! "How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you" (Psalm 31:19). “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows" (James 1:17).
