Stay in your lane

Society tells us this in numerous different ways such as mind your own business and keep to yourself. We are constantly being directed to look at ourselves; our lives; wants; needs etc. It has even gone so far as to twist a want or convenience into an undeniable right. Sadly so often we can become so self focused and self entitled that as a society we often dismiss the value of other people. This is completely opposite to what Jesus taught. He taught that we should be other focused and be willing to serve others. “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” ‭‭John‬ ‭15:12-13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Based on this scripture alone we are clearly not supposed to stay in our lane but we are to divert into other people’s. We are called to be actively aware of others and to be active in loving them. It is in fact our purpose here on earth. This doesn’t happen easily, it has been so entrenched in us to stay in our lane that we can often function much like horses with blinders on, we only see what is straight in front of us. I find myself asking God to broaden my view and to show me other people’s needs and struggles. Being an analytical person I am prone to building a process and the following it routinely. However, this approach does not allow me to see a need and veer into other lanes to impact and bless others. I need help to set aside my own perspective and take on the perspective of Jesus to love and serve others. If you find yourself staying in your lane pray and ask God to help you to change lanes and to impact someone’s life for the better. It is never wrong to extend His love to someone and you never know what might happen.
