A Wider Lens

Recently I went to the eye doctor and found myself selecting new frames. I have mostly chosen what I consider “traditional” frames. These are the ones that sort of blend in with anything you wear, generally a neutral color with a smallish lens. However before I ended up in the chair choosing my newest glasses I felt like God said to pick something new, different and maybe a bit daring. I generally have a hard time finding frames because my facial structure is wide and this limits my options some. This visit I tried on many different frames and finally settled on a pair.

Today I went back to get them fitted and to pick them up. One feature about the new glasses is that the lens is wider. I suddenly realized that by listening to God I had not only gotten a stylish frame but my vision was clearer because the lens is larger.

I know this may sound simplistic but He uses the simple things to convey great truth. How often do we find our vision impacted by the stuff of life, by having a narrow lens? It may not start out narrow but life has a way of closing our vision down sometimes under burdens, hardships, and the pace of every day life. All of this can look different in each person’s life but we all deal with it in some form. It wears on us and tries to narrow our gaze and drag our eyes off of Jesus.

During this holiday season I want to encourage us all to listen for His voice, to follow His lead because it just may lead you to see Him through a wider lens and you will be all the better for it.
