Hearing the Silence
I am sitting here being so thankful that God hears even in the silence. I am especially grateful for John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Everyone carries hard things that no one else knows. We all face troubles in this world that we don’t always talk about. Even in events that are shared, like the terrible events of 9/11 there is a myriad of different experiences. While we can and should, if need be, talk about these things there is still always a place where it is just us and how we feel. However that us does not mean we are alone. He is always with us.
I was on a plane when the terrorist attacks happened. I was flying back from Europe and I sat in the airport where Flight 93 was taken. Most people don’t know this, it’s not something I talk much about but each year I sit in the silence of that experience and God sits with me.
It doesn’t have to be a national tragedy it can be any moment you find challenging. You don’t have to say a word for Him to sit beside you in the silence and give you strength. When the words of John 16:33 were spoken they prepared the way for hope and healing. They sealed the victory over trials and troubles. He overcame them all. He looked at His disciples with love and reminded them they were never alone.
Whether it’s a personal experience or a national event or even just a day your heart is struggling He is ready to hear you even in the silence.
