Just One More

Have you ever faced something that in the moment seems insurmountable? A challenge that seems too vast to accomplish? This was me today as I waited for my friend and we headed to the pool to exercise. Nothing in me felt like I could go and do this workout. I was physically exhausted and in pain but I knew I needed to go. My normal workout is about two hours of hard exercise.  When we go we don’t just float about in the pool. We do an hour of arm, leg and core exercises and then we swim 50-70 laps. I wasn’t sure if I had it in me today. As I waited it seemed insurmountable and I could have canceled. My friend would have totally understood. As a cancer patient there are days your body just doesn’t want to do anything. However as I sat there I determined I didn’t want circumstances to win so I would go and do what I could even if it wasn’t the whole workout.

We got there and started in the shallow end warming up and stretching. We chatted with a couple other ladies who were enjoying the hot tub after their workout. It helped the time go by and when they left I realized I had done all my arm exercises so I headed to the deep end. Still struggling with the fatigue and pain I felt the Lord speak and say “Just one more”. Just one more ab crunch, just one more leg exercise. So I started focusing on just one more. I got through with the exercises and it was time for laps. Normally I love the feeling of swimming especially laps because it’s as if I am flying through the water. Today I held to the side of the pool already tired. My back which normally loosens up was as tight as ever still painful. I sighed and put in my ear plugs and thought just one more. The workout was definitely not getting easier but that was ok because I didn’t look at getting to fifty I just focused on one more. I just reached out to start each lap and before I knew it I had done fifty.

Sometimes challenges come and we can face them easily. We can see the victory and the overall picture. Other times we don’t know how we are going to manage. In those moments it is when God meets us and says just one more. Just reach out for my hand one more time. Just take a breath and pray one more time. Just turn your eyes to me one more time..and I will carry you.
