The Power of One

The power of one is so often portrayed as a single person, strong and self-sufficient. The truth of the power of one is the strength of many united as one! Each of us carry within us something needed by the body. Every part is needed and every God given gift is required to help us, as the church, establish the kingdom destiny.

““And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”

(Ephesians 4:11-16)

We see in Ephesians 4:11-16 that we are to come into the full knowledge of who He is and who He has made us to be so that we can cause the body to grow. Further we see that this is not a far off hopeful goal of a few special people it is for each of us. Verse 16 shows us the vital role of each person when it says that “according to the effective working by which every part does its share,”

There is no one person who is mightier, more gifted or more righteous. We all have access to the same gifts of salvation and empowerment by the Holy Spirit. We are joined in covenant to God when we accept Jesus as our Lord. As a covenant child of God we have access to everything that is our Father’s. This is why Scripture says the same power that raised Jesus from the grave lives in us.

In Colossians 1:27 it says, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” This word hope means the promise or source of glory. We are to carry the covenant identity we have received through salvation into the world to be the source for kingdom freedom for others. When we all stand in this place, unified as one the world will see the kingdom of heaven and people will be drawn to God’s love and freedom. It takes all of us to show the power of one.
