Painting Lessons

It never ceases to amaze me the lessons God speaks to me when I paint. Tonight I gazed at my current painting frustrated with the way some of the colors streaked and left uneven coloring. I picked up a brush to “try and fix it” even though I wasn’t really liking it at the moment.
The first brush stroke, then the next, repeated until I changed colors. Little by little the image became clearer. Each of the flaws faded into the canvas. Much like our lives when something doesn’t look the way we expect, or we are just in a season we aren’t thrilled with we just need to put it back before God and let Him speak.
Although this project is a paint by number I am starting to dabble in freehand painting. As I worked on each numbered section I felt God nudged me to let my brush be free of the exact lines and just flow. What started as an attempt to fix became an expression of my inner creativity. As I sat back and looked at my painting I realized that it was just like life. When we have something we try to fix instead of asking the Master Artist to give us a painting lesson. These lessons take us beyond what we see, beyond visible boundaries and make something so much better.
Why not ask God for a painting lesson and see what He does in your life?
