Pushing Past The Pain

There are many types of pain we experience in this world. Some of it is brief and some lingers. Today as I was exercising in the pool I was pondering how we deal with pain. It is not just something to be endured. We do have a choice in how we react to it. Of course we would all choose to live our lives with no pain but that isn’t real.

In John 16:20, Jesus tells His disciples they will weep and mourn while the world rejoices, and that they will experience pain, but that pain will change into joy

So the question becomes how do we deal with it. We can wail and moan, complain and let it take over our lives or we can push past the pain. As I was working on exercises that are painful for my back I could have easily stopped. I could have said nope these are too hard and it hurts. However I also know that pushing past the pain stretches and strengthens my back which means out of the pool I will have more strength and mobility. Because I am willing to embrace the pain now it saves me from pain later.

This is true of emotional pain as well. If we are willing to offer our hearts to God and willingly receive His truth, which can sometimes be painful, He will bring us past the pain and establish us in strength.

There will come a day when we will have no more pain but in this world how will you deal with pain? Will you let it define and cripple you or will you endure and overcome it?

And in Revelation 21:4, God promises a time to come where there is no more death, crying, or pain, because the old ways are gone.
